If you are seeing a dialog with the error message "License validation failed" upon first starting Vectorworks, it means there is still a file missing from the Vectorworks user directory that reads your serial number, called the LDF file.

You can add this file by following the steps below:

- Log in to the Vectorworks Customer Portal or Student Portal .
- Go to the tab ‘Licenses’
- Click on the download icon next to the serial number, the .ldf file will be downloaded.
- Open Vectorworks and the error dialog will reappear.
- Click on 'Provide LDF…'.

- Browse to the desired .- file, and click ‘Open’.
Evaluation License and Vectorworks without Service Select
- Contact the Vectorworks support team and ask for your personal .ldf file. Please clearly indicate which serial number you are currently working with (4 blocks with 6 characters each).
- Open Vectorworks and the error dialog will reappear.
- Click on 'Provide LDF…'.

- Browse to the desired .ldf file, and click ‘Open’.
