Set Auto Save correctly

Vectorworks has an autosave for files. This autosave ensures that each document has at least one backup, provided that the auto save is set up correctly.
Follow the steps below to set up the autosave properly:
- Go to the menu Tools/Options/Vectorworks Preferences. The Vectorworks Preferences dialog box opens.
- Select the “Autosave” tab.
- Set the time span between the backup copies. We recommend that you choose operations. Ideal is around 20 to 40 operations.
- Uncheck the “Request confirmation” option, so the backup will automatically be saved each time. When the option is checked, a dialog box will open after each set time period requesting a backup confirmation. If you choose “No” the system will not make a backup.
- Let the autosave make a backup. If you choose to overwrite the original file, you will not have a backup in case the file is damaged.
- Select the location of the backup file. There are two options:
- A backup folder in the same location as the original file. This option does what it says, a folder containing the backup(s) will be created in the same location as the original file. We do not recommend this option when the original file is stored on a server.
- The following folder. All backup copies are stored in one folder. You can recognize the backup by the file name (original file name + last save date). We recommend that you use this option when your original files are stored on a server. Choose a local folder on your computer.
- You can also choose the number of backup copies. By default, a single copy is made. We recommend that you keep two to three copies.
If you choose more copies, for example, after the first 25 operations, an initial backup will be made. After operation 50, Vectorworks makes a second copy. If the set number of backup copies has already been saved, the next backup will overwrite the first copy. - Click OK to save the settings for all documents you are working on.
