Graphics card settings on MacOS
Last update:
4/5/2024
A MacBook Pro often has two graphics cards: an Intel card and a dedicated graphics card. The Intel card is weaker and used primarily to conserve battery power. The dedicated card (AMD-Radeon or NVIDIA) is better suited for software such as Vectorworks.
By default, your MacBook will decide which card to use. So you may be using the Intel card for Vectorworks.
You can change this setting by following the steps below. This will tell your MacBook it should always use the dedicated card for Vectorworks:
On macOS 11, 12 and 13 (intel)
- Open the System Preferences.
- Go to ‘Battery’.
- Turn off ‘Automatic graphics switching’.
On MacOS 10.15 or older
- Open the System Preferences.
- Go to ‘Energy Saver’.
- Turn off ‘Automatic graphics switching’.
